Winter weather got you down? Since it's February and many people suffer from "Seasonal Affective Disorder" I thought I would offer up some ways to detox your mind. Many struggles come not only from the cold and blustery weather, gray skies and shorter daylight but, now even more than before because of isolation due to world events. The effects of Seasonal Affective Disorder are even more real! Here are some tips to detox your mind from all the gray happening around you.
~Exercise/Movement - Moving your body daily helps to releases endorphins and trigger positive feelings in our brains. Just a 5 minute walk can be beneficial for clearing your mind and uplifting your spirit.
~Meditation - Practiced daily just for short periods will bring you into the present moment and can help reduce negative emotions. There are many free apps and you can source YouTube for 100's of free guided meditations.
~Reading a book - A great way to escape negative events or situations around you is reading. Reading fun Fiction or Personal Development books can curb your perspective and raise your spirits. Other benefits of reading are it exercises the brain and prevents cognitive decline.
~Journaling - Taking all of our negative thoughts and putting them down on paper is a great way to "brain-dump"! It gives the mind opportunity to release those thoughts visually.
~Time away from technology. - Taking time each day to put down the phone, turn off the tv and stepping away from our computers can be very freeing and beneficial to detox our minds and shift our mood. Our brains can become overloaded with all the technology thrown our way as well as the content found in it!
~Separating yourself from negative people - They say we become who we associate with, that being said, separating yourself from toxic people and surrounding yourself with positive, upbeat like minded people can be a game changer in detoxing your mind!
~Self-Care - Self-Care is what I believe to be one of the best practices to detox your mind. Taking a long bubble bath, getting adequate sleep, fueling your body with healthy whole foods. Taking part in extra curricular activities that you enjoy such as getting a manicure, pedicure, massage, crafting or volunteering in your community. All of these self-care practices can help you achieve a mind detox!
Love,
Robin
