“The practice of being honest and showing a consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles and values. In ethics, integrity is regarded as the honesty and truthfulness or accuracy of one’s actions”. Wikipedia
Do you find yourself making promises that you don’t keep, to yourself as well as to others? For me, when it comes to making promises, being truthful and honest to others I am full of integrity, sometimes to a fault. If I am asked to do something you can bet it will be carried out with integrity and to the best of my ability! On the other hand, when being in integrity to myself many times I fall short. Here are some examples where I fall short. Telling myself I will work my business every day without fail. Declaring that I will clean my house. Saying that I will put aside so many hours a day to further my education. All of these things seem so attainable when I say them in my mind and then reality kicks in and balls are dropped. I wonder if this happens to any of you.
I am currently in a Leadership training and one of the distinctions in this training is, “Leaders have incredible strength of character, they never sell out or give up on their vision, commitment or values”. I am working through making this distinction a top priority in my life. I’m not sure if my lack of integrity to myself lately is due to the outside struggles we are currently facing in our world or if it’s a lack of belief in my abilities. All I do know is I can’t be the only one struggling through this type of self-sabotage.
As a Health and Fitness Coach/Fitness Instructor/Personal Trainer I am faced with people who struggle daily with integrity to themselves. Saying they need to work out, they need to eat healthier, they need to get better sleep, they need to drink more water etc. What if instead of saying we “need to”…we say “I get to”? Switching those two words could change the way we view the things we have not been accomplishing in our lives with the utmost integrity and look at them as joyful and fulfilling additions to our lives instead. How exciting would that be? Could that move the needle in the right direction?
Have you questioned your integrity with others and yourself lately? If this is something that you can relate to take a good look at what is working for you in this area and where you can improve. Are you a work in progress like me? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Leave a comment or a thought if you feel so moved and thanks for reading. If we all worked together more for solutions, lack of integrity could be a thing of the distant past for all of us. The world would certainly be a happier and more productive place!
Blog posts are not always about solutions and empowerment, sometimes they are just about putting your thoughts on paper so you can view them from a different perspective and work through challenges. That’s why I shared this specific struggle about myself today. You are not alone and life is not always sunshine and rainbows and that’s ok.
Love,
Robin
Great read. I also find myself dreading tasks or even going to work at times. Shifting the mindset to remind myself that l am lucky to have the job l do and that daily tasks can be fun motivates me to do the best l can. Outside factors definitely come into play with demotivation, but l have to remind myself to shut out the world’s issues l can’t resolve and focus on daily, small accomplishments.
